A family home in a wealthy western suburb of Perth called Floreat. Minutes from the beach, surrounded by lush parks, cafes and restaurants. Inside the Floreat house, an IT consultant father and an ex-journalist mother now homeschooling their only daughter. But within these four walls is a dark history of starvation, neglect, abuse and fraud against a vulnerable and malnourished child. Eventually hospitalised after her ballet teachers spoke up, and taken from her parents and placed into state care. But after turning 18, she returned to the family home. Their daughter and victim weighed 28.1 kilograms just days before her 17th birthday – an average weight of a 9 year old. She had the height of an average 11 year old, and Body Mass Index of 12.5 – indicating “severe malnutrition” and being “dangerously underweight”. A medical professional saying her bone density was the “worst she’s ever seen”. All this putting her at risk of bone fractures, infections, cardiac arrest, and death. 9 News Perth Reporter Ezra Holt has been following this story.
