US President Donald Trump has commented on his phone call with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese about a possible exemption from America’s 25 per cent steel and aluminium tariff.

“I just spoke to him; very fine man, and he has a surplus – I mean, we have a surplus with Australia, one of the few, and the reason is they buy a lot of airplanes,” President Trump said during a media conference on Monday, local time.

“They’re rather far away, and they need lots of airplanes, and we actually have a surplus; it’s one of the only countries which we do, and I told him that that’s something that we will give great consideration to.”

  1. President Trump is for America. However Australia should not have any tariffs because they have been one of our greasiest allies. They have fought along side us in every conflict. In that there should be no tariffs. But in Canada, Mexico and China they have been treating us very badly. They should pay.

  2. So what?? We are grateful thatTrump will consider a rebate for Aus?? Dutton. U lost my vote u coward!! So it’s all good if we save our own skin but what about our friends?? U are happy to kiss the ring of a bully to save ur skin but what about ur friends; Japan, Korea, Uk, France, Germany and so on… we had a name for people like Dutton and Albanese during the Second World War

Australian government needs to stop being dependent on other countries like America, which goes to show americans can turn on us like donald trump

  5. Trump is keeping all the trump cards (pardon the pun) in his hands. Friends, opponents, challengers & foes are all kept guessing which card will be dealt. It's the Art of Business applied to politics. I believe at the end of the day, he will deal Australia favourably but on USA terms not Australia's.

  6. he said he'll give canada 30 day break on tarrifs, then he breaks that promise 3 days later, he's claimed he'll lower prices but everything has gone up, he said he's gonna cut taxes for the people, but he's cutting taxes for the wealthiest americans… he says he's not gonna tariff Australians… fill in the gap :/

  7. Australia only exports 2% aluminium to America so how is it killing the Amercian industry??

Also America can buy less of it, that is up to them to decide.

Also Australia buys most of it back in the form of aeroplanes, jets and missiles and the submarines, they are made of a lot of steel and aluminum.!

Australia invests in metal making jobs in America also, so c'mon Trump give Australia a break already.
