the tariffs hurt people like bezos the most. they'll be forced to stop paying things with trades of physical goods and have to repatriate funds through the new external revenue service trump's setting up. this is why he also wants to abolish the IRS and has tabled some details on doing so in the last week, the IRS won't be necessary if corporations are forced to pay their share, lol.
the tarriffs are on specific things from specific countries, one of them being silicon chips from taiwan, which is currently posed to be taken by china at some point, as part of consistent bipartisan policy for the last decade, the US has been making moves to move silicon chip production back home. they're building new plants in the US with the help of the likes of TSMC, (taiwan semiconductor manufacturing co.) because taiwan themselves would rather see the US take over semiconductor manufacturing and sabotage their own plants if china invades.

biden and democrats supported the move to bring semiconductor manufacturing back to the US as well, for security reasons, the tariffs on taiwan are mainly about that, there's also been a lot of shenanigans around GPUs and CPUs in recent years, the US govt wants to keep a closer eye on Intel and Nvidia in particular.

Imagine Australia putting a Tariff on China. Nobody could afford to go to Bunnings, Supercheap Auto, BCF, Anaconda, etc.
