Ironically, shortly after switching to stainless steel straws, a woman carrying a drink, tripped, fell on the straw and it went through her eye and into her brain. Plastic straws are more durable and a lot safer.

All those years, all those decades, we successfully used paper straws. They worked , for a while.
Then again, we didn't have half -gallon cups of drinks. Plus. The wax used was probably better. Would have been banned in California…

Paper straws are even worse for the environment than plastic, since they are coated with PFAS, you will ingest it because it gets loose when the paper unravels.
