Sky News host Sharri Markson discusses the recent stock market “meltdown” in Australia as President Donald Trump pushes on with his tariff trade wars.
“The Australian share market went into meltdown … this of course follows concerns that Trump’s tariff trade war could spark a recession in the US,” Ms Markson said.
“Trump has always pointed to the markets as a measure of his success so this should be troubling him.”

Did anyone actually believe that Trump wouldn't impose tariffs on Australia? Trump has being saying tariffs are one of his favourite words. He seems dead set on destroying the world's economy and has no idea what he's doing despite what these guys are trying to justify. He's applying, removing, and postponing tariffs already on places like Canada and Mexico causing massive amounts of uncertainty and every time he loses his temper he throws more tariffs around without even consulting anyone. It's doing horrible things to the stock market and consumer confidence, which leads to lower spending, which leads to loss of jobs and companies going under, which leads to a spiral into a recession. Yeah… great job he's doing there Sky.
The tariffs are a repeat of a historical approach in the early 1900's prior to the application of income taxes. The tariff application will need the government to lower income taxes in Australia in order to allow Australians to keep more of their hard earned.
Australia and US should form a stronger relationship. 💪

Everyone who has an opinion on this realises Australia charges MASSIVE tariffs, right? Beer, cigarettes, luxury cars, everything that's imported is taxed, and regardless whether it's called GST, import levy, luxury tax, whatever, it's a tariff. One of the heaviest in the world.
