Australia’s lone cardinal Mykola Bychok is is Australia’s highest-ranking Catholic official after Pope Francis made him a cardinal last year. At the age of 45, Bychock became the Catholic Church’s youngest cardinal on 7 December 2024, when he was elevated to the College of Cardinals by Pope Francis at a consistory ceremony in the Vatican.
