Half of investment homes are being resold within two years of tenancy while rents continue to rise due to low vacancy rates, new data reveals. The research from the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute (AHURI) shows people aged 25-34 are more likely to purchase a rental property than other groups but are also more likely to resell quickly. Dr Michael Fotheringham says young property investors are offloading properties soon after purchase because of capital gains or lower-than-expected rental yield.
