Sky News host Sharri Markson says China’s threat to Australia is “so underreported”.

The Coalition pledged an extra $21 billion in defence spending, making it 2.5 per cent of GDP by 2030.

Ms Markson said the Coalition’s defence plan is a “welcome increase” to spending.

  1. Under reported😂😂.. my fellow Australians.. go back to the 4 minute mark and listen carefully to what he says about the submarines… The important word he slipped in was "supposed to get these submarines" . He said that because he, like anyone else who has read the ORCAS deal fine print, knows we aren't getting any submarines. We are paying 350 billion and we are building new US bases in Australia disguised as upgrades for submarines we're not even getting. You liars know all of this as well… And thats what makes it hilarious you guys putting under reported in the headline..you teleprompter readers would know what real journalism was if it jumped up and bit you

  2. China hasn't openly threatened our sovereignty, unlike Trump who has. And China is one of our largest trading partners, unlike America, who hit us with tarrifs when they had a trade surplus with Australia. I see Dutton is quietly trying to get the port of Darwin back after the LNP leased it to China, while he was a senior minister. That lease agreement has Scomo's signature on it.

  3. The difference is! China was laughing at the world and building their military and now the Aust government is “ pulling out their fingers “ , China if they could! Wish to take and own Aust! Thats very worries! Government too little and too late! I wish I am wrong! Uuuuuccck this government!!!

  4. Well… it is true the maneouvers are strange and the intimicity to come inside the Australian Territory is to worry indeed. Now if you think AGAIN… regardless… what reason does China possibly have to launch an attack invasion in Australia? Considering they need a lot of our resources and they also import a lot of theirs to Australia. 🤷‍♂️
Australia and China are trade pals so if we think this way… it would not be convenient AT ALL for China to attack Australia unless they got a master plan to use Australia as a strategic land to launch attacks to US and company (countries in Europe) to basically.. dominate the world along Russia and other countries from the counter part. Now this would be an scenario, a fictional movie…. considering the world leaders and everybody knows a World War would mean at least 90% of the World Population to disappear and being wiped from the existence of this World (after a nuclear grade world war).
Odds? Would say 40% and under at this stage. But stupidity from all countries involved on invasion and retaliation shall STOP and come to an agreement before this fictional movie eventually comes true, which I don't think it would happen at least within the next 10 years…
With all that said… I got one favour from you MEDIA. Stop sending these to people because this is only creating a collective fear and if there is something I believe in is the power of the mind and the manifestation thoughts can have on a physical world. So please… stop it (if it helps at all pleading)
    Cheers 🍻

  5. Australia needs to put this money into our defence forces immediately, even a bit more than 21 billion dolla4s. GET AUSTRALIA out of the AUKUS deal because it's a waste of Australia's dollars. ALSO, remove us f4om the Paris Agreement. We need to go back to the French and nicely ask them to build our new submarines, better yet, get the French over here to Australia to help and guide us to build our OWN well equipped submarines. We have to be a country of Nationalism, we have to be able to support ourselves first. AUSTRALIAS Defence and Security first absolutely.

  6. Should have been serious about defense after World war II when we could have been building our military up cuz you have someone like Hitler there's always someone else in the world exactly like them . We get over run
    that's because of the government

  7. Australia said on Thursday, February 13, 2025 that a Chinese fighter jet dropped flares near an Australian air force plane patrolling the South China Sea, accusing Beijing of "unsafe" military conduct.

Beijing swiftly hit back, accusing the Australian plane of "violating Chinese sovereignty and endangering Chinese national security".

China claims almost all of the South China Sea, despite an international ruling in 2016 concluding this has no legal basis.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said that "without Chinese permission, the Australian military aircraft deliberately intruded into the airspace around China's Xisha Islands", Beijing's name for the Paracel Islands.

No one was injured but Australian Defence Minister Richard Marles said the move posed the "potential for significant damage".

The rebuke coincided with the arrival of three Chinese navy vessels in waters northeast of Australia's mainland.

Defence department officials said a Chinese frigate and a cruiser had been spotted near Australia's "maritime approaches" with a supply tanker in tow.

"Australia respects the rights of all states to exercise freedom of navigation and overflight in accordance with international law, just as we expect others to respect Australia's right to do the same," the defence department said.

A Chinese fighter jet was accused of intercepting an Australian Seahawk helicopter in international airspace in May 2024, dropping flares across its flight path.

In 2023, a Chinese destroyer was accused of bombarding submerged Australian navy divers with sonar pulses in waters off Japan, causing minor injuries.

Reference: “Australia accuses China fighter jet of 'unsafe' conduct above South China Sea”.

  8. Scaremongering is all you'd expect from SKY NEWS, second rate reporters. China is not a threat to Australia, in fact China is a better Allie then the US backstabbers'

  9. As an Australian I will not Vote for any party that spends taxpayer's money on US Aircraft or Arms, For the first time in my life, I will note for the coalition Government
